Transmissions of a Satellite Heart #33

Circumstances and events that are beyond our control decide and change the trajectory of a life with impunity, be it human or animal.

But unlike animals, who never know what different paths their life could have taken if a single instance had happened in a different way, we – humans – dream and fantasize and agonize about the different lives we could have lived, of the different things we could have owned, of the different people we could have loved and received their love in return.

And I believe that this is the ultimate tragedy of human life. We make important decisions and choices every single day, yet our character arc is ultimately decided by powers beyond our control. And although we are fully aware of this fact, we can never do anything about it.

The best we can do is make better decisions and choices, and then live with the consequences – intended or unintended.
